Rock Band 3 Competition and vs. Power Gig
When Rock Band was released, Harmonix made a promise that the game would be a platform, meaning that fans should not expect to see multiple titles released each year, as they saw with Guitar Hero. That’s why, in 2008, when Harmonix released Rock Band 2, many fans were very confused. There was much worry that Harmonix had abandoned the gameplan in favor a making a quick-buck.
Harmonix was quick to dismiss all of those fears. They claimed that Rock Band 2 would be basically an extension of the original Rock Band, only it would contain more songs, better user interface and a much more feature-rich experience. When fans started to raise concerns that they paid a lot of money for their current DLC and that no game had ever had cross-compatible DLC, Harmonix listened to them as well. After much negotiation with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, Harmonix finally announced, to the relief of the millions of fans across the world, that not only would all original Rock Band DLC work for Rock Band 2, but most of the songs from the original Rock Band disc would export as well.
Rock Band 2 was released to an overwhelmingly positive critical reception and it has endured the test of time. In 2009, Harmonix released The Beatles: Rock Band as a special project, as well as Lego Rock Band, which was 100% exportable to Rock Band 2. This year, Harmonix announced that Green Day: Rock Band would also be 100% exportable to Rock Band 2, which helps users build their already enormous library.
With Rock Band Network coming down the pipe, players figured that Rock Band 2’s life would be extended by a year or two, but with Guitar Hero 5’s incredible graphics and spectacular feature-list, Harmonix recognized that Rock Band 2 was feeling slightly dated when compared to Guitar Hero 5. In response to this issue, Harmonix announced that Rock Band 3 would be coming to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii this holiday season. Competing with RB3 will be the new innovative release from Seven45 Studios, Power Gig: Rise Of The Six String.
What do you think of this Holiday Season Battle between Rock Band 3 & Power Gig? Will RB3 triumph or will the new guy steal its thunder?
